One day · 9 minutes of travel

The sea, and nothing else

The simplest day, and the one you'll repeat the most.

  • 8:30 — breakfast on the balcony, overlooking the fields
  • 9:30 — beach at Gatteo a Mare, Blue Flag 2026
  • 13:00 — lunch at home: nine minutes, and you avoid the August restaurant rush
  • 15:00 — rest, or a second beach session as the sun dips
  • 19:00 — stroll along the pedestrian seafront

Why it works from here: coming back home for lunch is only possible if the house is close and has parking. On the seafront you lose your parking spot in the morning and won't find it again in the evening.

One day · 24 minutes

The parks, without choosing the wrong one

The most common mistake is taking the wrong child to the wrong park. Here's the right match.

2–6 years

Oltremare

Dolphins, birds of prey, water play. Twenty-four minutes. Leave at 9, back for dinner. Packed lunches allowed, with a shaded picnic area.

6–11 years

Italia in Miniatura

Eighteen minutes, half a day. In the afternoon there's still time for the beach. Bring a change of clothes: you really get wet on the two water rides.

12 and up

Mirabilandia or Aquafan

Full day, early start. Mirabilandia 35 minutes, Aquafan 24. Under 130–140 cm many thrill rides are off-limits: check beforehand.

Cesenatico at sunset

The day almost everyone does the other way round. You can do the beach anywhere; the Porto Canale with its colorful-sailed boats is only there.

  • Morning at the beach, near the house
  • 16:00 — arrive in Cesenatico, when the heat eases
  • Museo della Marineria, and a loop around the canal
  • Sunset — low light on the sails: that's the moment
  • Dinner in the center, or fish bought at the harbor and cooked at home

Roman Rimini, on foot

Two thousand years in a few blocks, all walkable without getting back in the car. You park only once.

Three or four hours without entering museums; a full day with the Domus and the Fellini Museum. Market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.

San Marino, which is a separate country

Save it for a clear day: the point of that place is the view from Mount Titano, and with low clouds you won't get it.

Head up to the historic center, a UNESCO site; loop around the three towers and the ramparts, have lunch looking down. In the afternoon, if you like, drop to the outlet in Falciano, on the border.

Good to know: it's an independent State with its own tax regime — there's no VAT but a «single-phase» tax on imports. You enter without formalities, but it's technically another country.

One day · 17 and 23 minutes

The villages, when you've had enough of the sea

It usually happens on the fourth day. The answer lies inland, and from here it's a quarter of an hour away.

  • Morning, Santarcangelo (17′): the caves beneath the village — only with a guide and by reservation, and down there it's a constant 13 degrees. Then Stamperia Marchi, a workshop documented since 1633.
  • Lunch in the village
  • Afternoon, Cesena (23′): the Biblioteca Malatestiana, a 15th-century library that has come down intact, with its original desks and chains. One hour, and it's worth the trip on its own.

Short option: just Longiano (18′), a hilltop village with a castle, with views over the plain all the way to the sea.

By bike, along the river

Three routes of increasing difficulty, all flat, all a short distance from home.

Cesenatico – Gatteo a Mare

Paved seaside bike path, flat. The simplest: doable with little kids, and you can turn back whenever you like.

Cesenatico – Igea Marina

From the Porto Canale to Parco del Gelso, passing through Gatteo a Mare and San Mauro Mare. It crosses the Rubicone twice.

44 km · for those who ride

The Rubicone loop

From Cesenatico you follow the Rubicone embankment up to Savignano, reach Santarcangelo and return along the Uso river. It passes a few hundred meters from the house.

The rainy day

You need this, because sooner or later it happens. The rule: the heavier the rain, the farther from the sea it pays to go.

Cattolica Aquarium: indoors, takes 2–4 hours — exactly the length of a downpour.

The caves of Santarcangelo: underground, rain doesn't exist. You'll need a sweatshirt.
